Confurgence 2015
Hello everyone,
Well since I missed the last big con (again!) I am going to start making early plans for Confurgence 2015! I have bee looking at places to stay/flights ect. and have found out that:
Tiger Airlines has early bird flights to Melbourne (one way) for $41.95 (Carry-on only, baggage is $17.00 extra for 20kg and $22.00 extra for 25kg)
The Hilton Hotel has the Twin Guest Room for $225 a night, which over 4 nights that is about $900 total; however between 4 people its $225 per person for the entire weekend and includes 2 beds (which may be able to fit 2 in each bed), large bathroom, TV and iPod connectivity and easy access to the con as the 2 buildings are connected; I would prefer this option but understand that some others may not be able to afford this.
For those who cannot afford the room within the Hilton, Melbourne Nomad's All Nations has a 4 share room for $28.00 a night but has shared facilities and is much smaller.
Ticket for the con itself is $100, I think these may go up in price later on as they are early bird tickets
For fursuiting purposes I would prefer to stay at the Hilton, but depending on who is interested, I could always settle for the Nomads. I understand that some people don't like flying and may take the train or drive, but me personally I will be flying, I will also be arriving a day before the con begins (8th) and leaving on the 12th.
I do have several rules for those who stay with me, they are pretty simple and straight forward:
- Fursuiters are given shower priority as they may be needing to cool down immediately
- No naughty business, if you wish to do that stuff, please do it elsewhere and not bother others staying in the room; it is very inconsiderate to others who may need to sleep or cool down from suiting
- If it is late and you are coming back from partying/drinking/other activities, please understand that some other people may be asleep, so please keep it down and try to be as quiet as possible
- Keep area's tidy and neat, it makes packing up so much easier when
If you are interested, leave a comment or send me a PM; I am looking for 4 people to room with, so spots are limited; I will need to book rooms pretty soon in advance as they tend to sell out way before the convention. If you don't wish to fly you can always find your own transport but please let me know whats going on before hand.
This is all just planning at the moment, so if you are wanting to go to Confurgence, post a comment or something below
Thanks guys,
Kaz'mara

Re: Confurgence 2015
A trick I use is Jetstar has its birthday specials. I cant remember the dates but its around march from memory. My plans for accommodation was to organize a group of people and book out a room at the nomad, that way Im stuck with people I already know and feel safe with and still get to skimp to the max :3
The other benefits of having a group would be to have cooked meals, if youre just buying for yourself takeout is easier but the more you have to feed the cheaper home cooking becomes. Communal shampoo/conditioner/showergel would also trim down on costs, its much easier to just buy a bottle when you get there but you never go through it by yourself.
One disadvantage of backpacker hotels is that they often dont allow the consumption of alcohol, so if alcohol is bought separately at say a bottle-o your only way to drink it is to get invited to a room party (the street, hotel, convention area and bars are all dry zones or dont allow for BYO under alcohol licensing agreements)
Im up for your idea in theory, but I dont know you so I cant be certain if it will work in practice. ^_^

The Nomads has a bar attached to it from memory; I think its on their website, but I don't drink alcohol XD
I like the idea of staying at the Hilton mainly because of fursuiting reasons, makes travelling to/from the con to cool down and change much easier but it is a whole lot more expensive. Nomads does sound like a good idea if we get a large group of people together, not to mention its about 5 minutes away from the convention area.

I have always wanted to go but never had a chance, I get too shy and chicken out when the dates get closer; but I am really going to make an effort to go in 2015!

Re: Confurgence 2015
Yeah bars only allow you to purchase their alcohol.
I can understand why the Hilton would be the best option for you but I mentioned the rest of it mainly for anyone who might want to skimp with me. There are a few other suiters who might be interested in sharing a room, Sanguine or Blazie are two, off the top of my head.
If I do end up sharing a hotel room, the way Id organize it would be 3 to a bed, (Ive slept next to most of the local community before so Im comfortable with that) and a group board game/show and tell before bed. On the last night of the con of course there would be a room party. Doesnt particularly sound like its your cuppa tea, but this is all theoretical anyway ^_^ Id also likely stay for 5-7 days, I like to go shopping and looking around while Im there, take a bit of a holiday.
Okay well if you want some travel tips or advice, or even what to pack feel free to PM me
